Synchronous: Learning that takes place “live” or at the same time. For example, a lesson conducted through Adobe Connect is not face-to-face, but it is still synchronous and all learners receive instruction at the same time.

Blended model: This usually refers to learning that takes place both synchronously face-to-face, and asynchronously online. This model is becoming popular as a branching out from brick-and-mortar schools.

Credit recovery program: An option for students who may not have passed a course the first time. Virtual schools which offer credit recovery programs both during the school year and during the summer are becoming popular options for seekers of credit recovery.
